Star of stage and screen Anika Noni Rose has been cast in cable TV channel A&E’s upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s Bag of Bones, his award-winning 1998 novel.

Ms Rose will play a character named Sara Tidwell, a dead blues singer whose ghost haunts the house of a bestselling novelist who is fighting a bitter custody battle. That bestselling novelist will be played by Pierce Brosnan.

I’ve read a number of Stephen King’s works, but this is one novel that I haven’t, and thus not too familiar with; so can’t say much about it; every synopsis I read is lengthy and pretty much gives the entire story away, so I won’t post them here.

One write-up I came across described the Sara Tidwell ghost character – “a black woman who was gang-raped and forced to witness the murder of her young child” and now wants revenge.

Those who’ve read the novel can chime in.

The planned 4-hour mini-series will air on A&E toward the end of this year.

I’ll have to pick up a copy for myself and add to my to-read pile.
