Antoine Fuqua, who we reported is to direct a feature-length documentary about Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight for Showtime, is in talks to direct Relativity Media‘s Hunter Killer, which begins production this winter. According to Variety, the film’s script, written by John Kolvenbach and Arne Schmidt, is based on the novel Firing Point by George Wallace and Don Keith.
The story “follows an untested submarine captain who must work with a Navy SEAL team to rescue Russia’s president, taken prisoner during a military coup. The two sides team up to stop a rogue Russian general from igniting World War III.” Neil Moritz and Toby Jaffe from Original Film and Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh will serve as producers.
Fuqua is reportedly no longer directing Eminem in the boxing-themed Southpwaw after DreamWorks pulled the plug back in August. He was also set to direct the Tupac biopic this summer, but the project seems dead in the water for now, as they haven’t found a lead actor to portray the late rapper.
The film is set to be released December 21, 2012. No word yet on the casting. Stay tuned..
