April Ryan, White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks, has received death threats after asking White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders if President Trump has considered resigning, according to The Hill.
Sanders quickly dismissed her question as "ridiculous," but some Trump supporters didn't find the query amusing and have decided that it warrants death threats. During an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Ryan said the question was fair and that she was just doing her job.
"Some are saying it was a great question — people who do not support this president. And those who are supporting this president are outraged, are angry." Ryan said. "I've been getting death threats, and we've been calling the FBI. I asked a simple question … I did not point a finger, I asked a question, and now my life is in jeopardy because of a question."
The question came following reports of an FBI raid on the offices of Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen. The raid was recommended by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Items seized in the raid reportedly include emails and documents related to the growing Stormy Daniels scandal. As pressure from this and other scandals intensify, Ryan reached out to her sources, who allegedly told her that there is some speculation that Trump's stepping down may be "on the table.”
“That is not illogical, irrational," Ryan said. "It is a real question on the table, the path [the] White House does not want to deal with because they’re trying to craft the picture, the winning image. And there is no winning picture at this moment.”
Although Ryan is taking these threats seriously, she says they will not affect her reporting. "I’m going to continue to do my job,” she said.
