On top of that, Disney later revealed that, in addition to at least 3 more films, fans should expect stand-alone films, and TV series, separate from the official Star Wars films, that will be based on Star Wars characters.

Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed this piece of news during an interview with CNBC, earlier this year. He added that these spin-off films and TV series will be released between the releases of the already announced 3 (or more) new Stars Wars movies (VII, VIII and IX), and that Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are already currently working on them.

Iger wouldn’t say what characters will be spun-off into their own movies, however.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Abrams opened up a bit about his intentions for the first film in the new trilogy, specifically speaking on the mood he’s trying to bring back to the series. 

“I would say we are working really hard to make a movie that feels as emotional and authentic and exciting as possible… Whatever your favorite ‘Star Wars’ movie is, and how to compare it, is really sort of subjective.”

He further added:

“It’s been nice see that how important it is and to be reminded how important it is to so many people. We all know that [creator George Lucas’] dream has become almost a religion to some people… I remember reading a thing somewhere, someone wrote about just wanting [the new film] to feel real, to feel authentic. I remember I felt that way when I was 11 years old when I saw the first one. As much of a fairy tale as it was — it felt real. And to me, that is exactly right.”

All well and good I suppose, but my question is, when exactly does Star Wars fatigue begin? Does it ever? Will it ever? At least 3 more Star Wars movies, plus individual movies based on characters from the Star Wars universe, plus individual TV series also based on characters from the Star Wars universe.

And with new this morning that Disney has officially ended its extremely profitable relationship with super producer Jerry Bruckheimer, I’d imagine that Disney’s film release slate over the next 5 to 10 years, will comprise mostly of new Star Wars movies, movies based on characters from Marvel’s vast library of content (Disney paid $4.2 billion to buy the comic book and film studio in 2009) and Pixar movies.
