With the holiday season firmly upon us, Lifetime is kicking things off with its annual array of Christmas movies. Chief among them is A Christmas Winter Song, starring Grammy-winning songstress Ashanti.
In the film, Ashanti portrays a Christmas shop owner who bonds with a homeless jazz singer, played by Stan Shaw. Having recently experienced losing her own father, she helps him to reconnect with his family, just in time for the annual Christmas concert. A Christmas Winter Song not only showcases Ashanti’s talents as an actress but as a singer as well.
This isn’t Ashanti’s first time starring in a Lifetime Christmas movie. The “Foolish” singer starred as the villainous Teanna Musk in the 2013 film Christmas In The City. While her role as Teanna was more comedic, Ashanti revealed in a podcast interview for TV Guide that she wanted to do something a bit more dramatic.
“I wanted to do something that kinda tugged at your heart a little bit,” she said. “It’s always good to bring that emotion.”
A Christmas Winter Song will premiere on Lifetime on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8 pm ET.
