Well like it’s about bloody time!
Finally a Pam Grier
film is going out on blu-ray DVD and It’s Foxy Brown. If you’ve seen it, then you know what the big deal is. And if you haven’t then, 1) there is no excuse, and 2) I
can’t help you.
And check out these extra features, including a restored high definition presentation “for
the first time in the world”, audio commentary by director Jack Hill, the documentary “From Black and White to Blaxploitation” in which actor Sid
Haig speaks about his long and influential friendship with Hill, and another doc “A Not So Minor
Influence” which is an
interview with Bob Minor, the first black
member of the Stuntman’s Association,
and co-star of Foxy Brown.
And
there’s more!
There’s “Back
to Black” in which actors Fred “The Hammer” Williamson
(Black Caesar, Three The Hard Way), Austin Stoker
(Sheba Baby, Assault on Precinct 13), Rosanne Katon (Ebony, Ivory, and Jade) and
film scholar Howard S. Berger speak
about the enduring popularity of the Blaxploitation film (Where am I? I should be in the documentary too), a photo gallery of
behind-the-scenes and publicity images and a trailer reel.
And there’s still more, including a collector’s booklet
featuring a new article on the film by Josiah
Howard, who’s the author of Blaxploitation
Cinema: The Essential Reference Guide, and a new interview with Pam Grier by Jack Hill biographer Calum Waddell, illustrated with original archive stills and
posters.
And there still other extra features I haven’t even
listed.
It comes out on June 24th.
There’s just one catch though…
It’s
coming out only in the U.K. through Arrow Video right now. No American blu-ray DVD release is set for anytime
soon. (How come those Limeys gets all the
luck?)
And being a British DVD from Arrow, that means that it’s
going to be Region B, which means that, unless you have an all-region
blu-ray DVD player that can play DVD from any country, you won’t be able to play it
here on an American market player.
Looks like I’m ordering an all-region blu-ray player TODAY.
