Some of your favorite rappers are apparently afraid to go up against Busta Rhymes in a Verzuz battle.
After the battle between rap icons KRS-One and Big Daddy Kane, b-boy legend Crazy Legs revealed five people have turned down the opportunity to go up against one of hip-hop's biggest names, HipHopDX reports.
“I had to let @bustarhymes know that no one is worthy enough to battle him,” he wrote in an accompanying caption to a photo of himself and Rhymes and Swizz Beatz. “Then he told me that five people already turned it down. Some things are just what they are. He has the unfortunate pleasure of being a god in the rap game. Shout out to @therealswizzz for the #BDP outfit of the day!”
While it's unclear if Fat Joe was one of the five rappers to shy away from battling the New York native, the "All the Way Up" rapper admitted to not wanting to be a willing participant in such sorcery.
"Busta Rhymes is gonna out-rap, out-perform anybody that goes up in the VERZUZ with him. That’s a fact! Yo, Busta Rhymes nobody wanna get in there with you, man. You might have to be an honorary — they gotta give you the check for no reason.” Fat Joe told his followers.
“Fat Joe scared to do Verzuz with Busta Rhymes and so is everybody else,” he said. “You gotta understand, sometimes you ever notice — you seen boxers and they knock everybody out? People be scared to fight those boxers."
During an interview with Complex, Rhymes said that while he would be open to a battle that was "respectfully" or "disrespectfully" competitive, he assured fans that if he went up against T.I., he would "bust his ass."
He added that he would be interested in going up against Eminem, JAY-Z or Lil Wayne.
“I would love to spar against anybody … as long as their catalog is a powerful catalog, because I don’t want to do a corny Verzuz,” he said in Nov. 2020. “I don’t wanna do no Verzuz with anybody whose catalog isn’t crazy. And I would love to do a Verzuz with somebody that I’m a fan of, because I’m only trying to compete with people that brings the best out of me.”
Verzuz battles have been known to bring out thousands of fans and, in turn, skyrocketing music streams for the participating artists. During the peak of the pandemic, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz kicked off Verzuz battles that saw the pairing of iconic artists showing off their catalogs.
