Marvel has tapped the the legendary DJ, rapper, and producer, Ali Shaheed Muhammad from A Tribe Called Quest to score their upcoming Luke Cage series on Netflix.

The project will be co-scored by Muhammad and composer Adrian Younge. The two musicians are frequent collaborators and co-produced the track “untitled 06 | 06.30.2014” on the most recent Kendrick Lamar release Untitled Unmastered, which was originally intended for a joint album called The Midnight Hour.

As well as being an ATCQ member, Muhammad went on to form an R&B group with Dawn Robinson of En Vogue and Raphael Saadiq of Tony! Toni! Toné! that released one album together. He also made a solo project in 2004. He is now the co-host of NPR’s radio show “Microphone Check.”

When the Showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker gave the confirmation to EW about Ali Shaheed and Younge’s involvement with the music, he told them, “It’s very sophisticated. I mean, it’s got a ’90s hip-hop vibe, but it’s really forward-thinking.”

Reportedly, the show is being scored with the mixing of live and digital sonic landscapes, and a full orchestra is being conducted by another collaborator, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson.

Marvel’s Luke Cage will premiere September 30, 2016, streaming exclusively on Netflix.
