An Atlanta mother is suspected of murdering her two children before pulling a gun on herself, with police now trying to determine a motive.

According to CBS46, authorities are investigating the case after 58-year-old Marsha Edwards and both of her adult children, Erin and Chris, were found dead in their Atlanta suburban townhouse on Wednesday.

Edwards, the ex-wife of notable neurological surgeon Dr. Christopher Edwards, also worked in the medical field, owning a consulting business.

As the station reports, Dr. Edwards, father of the two children, became worried about his son before requesting for police to check on him at his mother’s home. That’s when Dr. Edwards and several officials later arrived to discover a devastating scene.

Erin, 20, was a student at Boston University who'd completed her summer internship two weeks ago at WNBC in New York City. The station remembered her as someone with “infectious enthusiasm and a true passion for journalism.”

Chris, 24, also had a promising future in the media industry. He was an Elon University graduate and served as a digital content manager for the Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Film and Entertainment.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and her husband Derek released a statement on social media regarding the incident.

“…The greater Atlanta community in mourning the loss of three members of the beloved Edwards family. Chris and Erin were beautiful, vibrant, and brilliant young adults, whom we had the pleasure of knowing their entire lives. They filled the lives of all who met them with joy, compassion, and kindness,” the statement reads in part.

All three of the deceased Edwards family members were a part of The National Association of Black Journalists. The organization’s newly elected president, Dorothy M. Tucker, shared a statement regarding the family online.

“The #NABJ family has lost three of our own. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of Marsha Edwards, Christopher Edwards II and Erin Edwards. This tragedy has claimed the lives of three members, but touches countless more,” Tucker wrote

Marsha, who frequently gushed about her kids on social media, wrote in a final Instagram post a caption that said, “I could not ask for better children.”

The family has scheduled a memorial service at a local church next Wednesday.
