Atlanta fans can finally rejoice now that the trailer for the third season has been released.
The third season, starring Donald Glover, Brian Tyree Henry, LaKeith Stanfield and Zazie Beetz, debuts on March 24. It drops ahead of the fourth season, which is also due this year.
The third season will find the characters in Europe instead of Atlanta as the group navigates their newfound fame. But the same kind of surreal, hilarious storytelling is still in effect. Sadly, though, the third season will be the series’ penultimate season; Glover, who created the series, decided to end Atlanta after its fourth season.
Glover broke the news about the end of the series this February at a Television Critics Association panel attended by S&A.
He also revealed that he wanted to end the series after the second season, but decided against it.
“To be honest, I wanted to end it after Season 2, and I think we had talked about that for a minute,” he said. “Like, we had talked about [how] death is natural. I feel like when the conditions are right for something, they happen, and when the conditions aren’t right for it, they don’t happen. You can’t do too much.”
“I feel like the story was always supposed to be what it as, and the story…it really was us,” he continued. “Like, everybody in that writers’ room, everybody on set, it really was what we were going through and what we talked about, and that’s the only way I like to make things.”
He also said that he wouldn’t mind coming back to the series several years later, saying, “We won’t be able to get Zazie. She’ll be done with us by then,” he joked. “But I mean, if people want to do it, if there’s a reason to do it, yeah. But it always depends. I like keeping my options open.”
