Following a slew of incendiary remarks aimed at Muslim immigrants, a teenage Australian protester came face-to-face with a far-right senator in a bare-fisted brawl that has now gone viral.
Australian Senator Fraser Anning has come under fire for blaming the Christchurch terror attack, which claimed 50 lives, on Muslim immigration, reports The Associated Press.
“The real cause of bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place,” Anning said in a statement on Friday. “Let us be clear, while Muslims may have been the victims today, usually they are the perpetrators.”
He also wrote several disparaging tweets in the immediate aftermath of the massacre. His comments riled up condemnation from the left. It would eventually come to a head when a 17-year-old counter-protester named Will Connolly egged the politician during a rally on Saturday.

Footage from the intense scene showed the teen crush an egg on the side of Anning's head. Then, the far-right politician retaliated with a slap to Will's face. A gang of rallygoers tackled the 17-year-old, dubbed "Egg Boy," to the ground and held him until authorities arrested him.

The counter-protester was apprehended and released Saturday without charge, according to the AP.
“The incident is being actively investigated by Victoria Police in its entirety,” a police statement said. Local authorities will also investigate Anning’s actions, the statement read.

In a second video after his arrest, Connolly discouraged others from taking action in the way he did. “Don’t egg politicians—you get tackled by 30 bogans at the same time," Will said upon his release. "I learnt the hard way.”
Since going viral, Egg Boy has gained a slew of supporters including Prime Minister Scott Morrison. The PM believes Anning should be reprimanded for striking a minor.
"The full force of the law should be applied to Sen. Anning,” Morrison said on Sunday.
A GoFundMe campaign launched in Egg Boy's honor raised more than $30,000 for legal fees and to help the victims of the terror attack.
