Ava DuVernay tops the partial list of Directors Guild of America nominees for her work on Netflix’s When They See Us.

DuVernay and her directorial team have all been nominated for the record-breaking Netflix miniseries covering the wrongful arrest, trial and conviction of the Exonerated Five. Among the other nominees for television direction is Don Roy King, who directed December’s Saturday Night Live episode hosted by Eddie Murphy featuring Lizzo.

The nominations for DuVernay and her team come after DuVernay and When They See Us were among the many projects snubbed by the Golden Globes and the HPFA. No female filmmakers were nominated for Golden Globes, and only a few people of color, including Ramy‘s Ramy Youssef, The Farewell‘s Awkwafina, and Pose‘s Billy Porter were nominated for their acting performances.

Youssef and Awkwafina were also among the few winners of color during the awards ceremony, along with Parasite director Bong Joon Ho.

The DGA Awards will be held on January 25 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Los Angeles.
