Ayo Edebiri is shaking up the Emmys race as her portrayal in The Bear earns Lead Actress Emmy consideration.

TV Line reports that Edebiri will be submitted into the Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category for her performance in season 2 of The Bear. Her Season One performance is currently nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Edebiri’s potential Lead Actress nomination would go against other contenders during the 76th Primetime Emmys, set for next September. As for her chances of winning an Emmy in the supporting category, that will occur during the delayed 75th Primetime Emmys, set to air Jan. 15, 2024 on Fox.

The Emmys were originally scheduled for Sept. 18 of this year, but were pushed back due to the SAG-AFTRA actors strike and the WGA writers’ strike. Because of the delays, the Emmys will, according to TV Line, “recognize advancements in series that aired between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023.”

Back in July, Robert Townsend, who guest-starred on The Bear as the father of Edebiri’s character Sydney, said to The Hollywood Reporter about Edebiri’s talent.

“She’s like a little force of nature. I love her being,” he said at the time. “As an artist, you respond to people’s energy and who they are. We call it that ‘it thing’ in show business and she has that it thing. She’s having the most amazing moment.”
