It's not often that we see TV series centered around the lives of black people – in this case, a black teenage girl. So when that happens, we take notice!

A new show on BBC3 that I'm only just now learning about, titled Some Girls, stars Adelayo Adedayo and centers on the lives and loves of a group of quirky 16-year-old girls who play on the same school football team and live in the same inner city neighborhood.

Any of our Brit readers watching this? What're your thoughts on it thus far?

Some Girls launched on November 6 (when its first episode aired on BBC3), and is currently 2 episodes in, with episode 3 scheduled to air on November 20. So it's still early in the season – although I learned that it's only a 6-episode season (which is common across the pond; no 13 to 24 episode seasons like we have here in the USA).

But Adelayo Adedayo (whose name might be familiar, since she co-starred in a Brit drama called SKET, which we profiled on S&A earlier this year), leads Some Girls (which immediately made me think of HBO's hit series Girls, but in name only. Although if I recall, Girls also centers on the lives and loves of a group of quirky women – not 16-year-olds; they don't live in an *inner city* neighborhood however). 

Here's the breakdown:

At the heart of the comedy is Viva (Adelayo Adedayo), whose ambition is to stay motivated and go to college. She lives with her dad Rob (Colin Salmon) and her stepmother Anna (Dolly Wells), a New Zealander who also happens to be Viva's sadistic PE teacher. Viva is great friends with Holli (Natasha Jonas) whose entertaining, violent outbursts are legendary. Saz (Mandeep Dhillon) and Amber (Alice Felgate) complete the gang. They talk about everything from history homework to their ambitions in life. They share everything: their clothes, their moods, their secrets and – occasionally – their mothers' tranquillisers.

Hat-tip to Colin Salmon, another S&A fave actor whose name has come up often. Glad that he's busy.
