Titled Death For Sale, this Moroccan drama premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall, and will next screen at the Berlin International Film Festival which gets underway this week in that city; and how I wish I was there ot cover it. Next year 🙂
Directed by Faouzi Bensaidi, his 3rd feature film, Death For Sale's synopsis reads:
In Tetouan, at the northern edge of Morocco, three young men decide to rob a jewelry store. The heist goes awry, and their destinies part drastically. In Death for Sale, Faouzi Bensaidi draws a captivating noir portrait of a city abandoned to corrupt officials, smugglers and extremists.
Bensaidi’s terse directorial style and decision to cast young, relatively unknown actors, helps create a raw energy about the film, and I like what I see and feel in the trailer below; no word on where it'll head next after Berlin, or if it even has any kind of distribution in place:
