On Friday, former President Bill Clinton appeared in front of the House Oversight Committee for a closed-door deposition, denying that he did anything illegal with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Clinton gave his statement in Chappaqua, New York, after he was ordered to testify to Congress, CBS News reported.
What did Bill Clinton say at his hearing?
Despite the various photos from the Epstein files that show Clinton, who’s 79 now, associating with the convicted sex offender and his co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell, the former president said he “had no idea of the crimes Epstein was committing.”
“No matter how many photos you show me, I have two things that at the end of the day matter more than your interpretation of those 20-year-old photos,” Clinton told the committee, per CBS News. “I know what I saw, and more importantly, what I didn’t see. I know what I did, and more importantly, what I didn’t do. I saw nothing, and I did nothing wrong.”
He said he doesn’t have specific memories of the events that happened decades ago.
“This was all a long time ago,” he said. “I am bound by my oath not to speculate.”
Clinton also bashed the committee for bringing in his wife and former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for questioning the day before. He said his wife “had nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein.”
“She has no memory of even meeting him. She neither traveled with him nor visited any of his properties,” he said. “Whether you subpoenaed 10 people or 10,000, including her was simply not right.”
Bill Clinton shared that Jeffrey Epstein offered to give him his private plane
In January 2026, Clinton submitted a sworn declaration to the committee and revealed that Epstein offered to give him his private plane. According to the declaration, Epstein offered the gift to show support for the Clinton Foundation’s philanthropy projects. Still, Clinton said he never visited Epstein’s private property in the Virgin Islands.
“While Mr. Epstein may very well have attended any of the many hundreds of White House events or receptions during my eight years in office and been photographed with me as were tens of thousands of individuals, I do not recall encountering Mr. Epstein, or any specific interactions with him, while in office,” his declaration stated, per CBS News.
What did Hillary Clinton say at her deposition?
Hillary Clinton gave a similar statement as her husband when she met with the committee on Thursday.
“I think it is fair to say that the vast majority of people who had contact with him before his criminal pleas in ’08 were like most people — they did not know what he was doing. And I think that that is exactly what my husband will testify to tomorrow,” she said, according to ABC News.
She also noted that she doesn’t remember meeting Epstein and she never visited his properties or office.
