Her last work, Beale Street Blues, a short acclaimed documentary, was featured on this blog earlier this year, as it successfully toured the film festival circuit.

The second film from director Kecia J. Benson, examined the lives of several blues historians on Beale Street, up-close and personal, including: Memphis Gold, Earl the Pearl, Sonny Mack, John MoBlues, Mz. Zeno, Carl Drew, Rudy Williams, and Big Jerry in their day-to-day struggles as “ole blues artists”.

Ms Benson is now putting on her producers hat to produce a short film titled The B Word, directed by twin filmmakers Nakisha & Nichole Aliece Ceilstan, which will tackle eating disorders.

THE B WORD” is a cinematic short narrative depicting two sisters on conflicting paths; both leading to a destructive cycle of fear, blame and uncertainty. The story is set around the disease of “Bulimia Nervosa”, and how it’s debilitating factors can transform a sisterly bond into one of dysfunction; ultimately becoming unhealthy and toxic. This short is a fictionalized take on a growing epidemic in our community that has yet to be addressed on a grand scale.

Indeed it hasn’t and the filmmakers want to affect that. 

But first, they need your assistance. They’ve launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the project, with a $5,000 goal. The good news is that, with 4 days left, they’ve raised over $4,400, meaning they need just $600 (or more, since they can go over), for the campaign to be a success.

The film’s cast includes Shema Jones, Shayla Hale, Lamon Archey and Desirae Whitfield.
