Fans of Black Panther and A Wrinkle in Time have joined forces to make both Disney films a hit.
After a recent Variety article titled "Will 'A Wrinkle in Time' Be the Film That Dethrones 'Black Panther'?" surfaced on the internet late last week, black filmgoers believed the site attempted to pit the two black-directed films against one another.
In the past two weeks, Black Panther has become a global phenomenon that's set to make a billion dollars in ticket sales. Twitter user @Shaunlybee wrote that Hollywood believes that there can only be one successful black film at one time.
There are other movies opening that aren’t being compared. They’re not asking if Annihilation can dethrone Black Panther. There’s a Hollywood mentality that there can only be one successful “black” movie at a time.

While many agreed with her take, Twitter user @ErrolGlowaki says that these types of articles are commonplace and that A Wrinkle in Time is the only film coming out in the next few weeks that can challenge Black Panther's place at number one.
The other movies aren't being compared because none are projected to outsell black panther. The writer believes AWIT can possibly take the #1 spot at the box due to pre sale and overall hype surrounding the film. It's really not that deep these articles are written all the time

When they say dethrone they mean at the top of the box office, by time A Wrinkle in Time comes out, Black Panther will be in it's 4th weekend but will still put up big numbers. It's legitimate to ponder weather it will be #1 on opening weekend. Read the Article!

This controversy has been an afterthought to the directors and fans who want to see both movies. Directors Ryan Coogler and Ava DuVernay have always supported each other's projects. They also shared the same editing suites at Disney and frequently discussed their projects while in post-production.
The final numbers are in and whoa! Ryan Coogler coming through the door with $241m opening weekend! Couldn’t have happened to a more wonderful person. Truly. He made it so through his talent and tenacity. Proud to call him friend and brother. #WakandaForever

Fortunately, for Disney, Black Panther fans have shown the same enthusiasm for the Marvel superhero flick on Twitter.
Real talk, we all gotta go crazy for "A Wrinkle In Time" just like we did for Black Panther. I know it's not an action movie, but we gotta support Ava DuVernay too

I hope y'all know that I'm finna be just as crunk for A Wrinkle in Time as a was for Black Panther. Black History Month ain't over til March 9th.

I’m still high on Black Panther and now we get A Wrinkle in Time soon. pic.twitter.com/n6OZfEUogC

It is very likely that both movies will share the number one and two spots because no other studio can touch Disney at the moment. The fantasy adventure epic will hit theaters March 9.
