The rumor last year was that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith had been approached to play Stanley and Stella Kowalski, in a Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams’ landmark, Pulitzer Prize-winning play, A Streetcar Named Desire, which was supposedly set to open early this year. That obviously didn’t happen, because, well, it simply wasn’t true.

This one however is a done deal! No rumors here.

THR reports that Blair Underwood will make his Broadway debut playing Stanley Kowalski in the Emily Mann-directed production of A Streetcar Named Desire, scheduled to debut in spring 2012. Just in time, since the NBC show he co-starred in (The Event) was recently cancelled.

While it’ll be his Broadway debut, Mr Underwood isn’t a stranger to the theater stage, with credits that include 2004’s IM4: From the Mountaintop to Hip Hop, a one-man show in which he played eight characters, and an off-Broadway production of Purlie in 2005.

So, who’s going to be on the receiving end of his calls for “STELLA!?” Or how about the Southern belle Blanche Du Bois?

Let the speculation begin…
