Content producer Cecilia Maria Austin passed away on Tuesday. Her cause of death is unknown.
Austin, 35, was a branded content writer for Blavity among her other journalistic roles. Since joining Blavity in Sept. 2020, she wrote several impactful articles and most recently did a feature on Ohio politician Nina Turner. Austin painted a picture of Turner's journey and how she developed into the leader and social justice fighter she is today.
She also freelanced with Houston Style Magazine where she wrote about concerts, festivals and other events.
Austin, who is originally from Oakland, California, lived in Houston for over a decade. In 2010, she graduated from the University of Houston where she studied journalism and political science. She met her husband, Jay, in 2017.
Austin's death is weighing heavy on the hearts of her family, friends and those who admired her work. Some who knew her took to social media to remember her life and legacy, including rapper Trae Tha Truth.
You will be missed dearly and celebrated daily Cecilia Austin. Rest In Peace.
