“Someone leaked where we were staying and posted it in a Facebook group, and then people were threatening to come and beat us up and harm us and burn us and stuff like that,” Bob said on Choice Words With Samantha Bee. “We had entire businesses say they would not serve us, and then other businesses were being threatened that if they served us, they would be ruined.”

He continued, “They were like, ‘You can’t serve these people, and if you do serve them when they leave, you will have no business. So then other people who want to support us were afraid to support.”

At the time of the doxxing, the We’re Here cast and crew were filming in Granbury, Texas, where LGBTQ-themed books are being targeted.

When it comes to his experience, Bob did not mince his words: “I was like, ‘If this town sank into the earth and it was never heard from again, I genuinely wouldn’t care’ because I hated that town so much.”

Despite his frustration, he went on to clarify that “not every single person” was unwelcoming toward him and his fellow drag queens, which helped him to stay the course.

“I was like, ‘I’m here to do my job,’ and I’m going to get it done because I know there are people here who want this to happen too,” he said. “There are people here who do want us here.”

We’re Here, HBO‘s unscripted television series documenting drag queens as they trek across small-town America and attempt to convince residents to participate in one-night-only drag shows to spread love, awareness and acceptance, premiered in early 2020.

While discussing homophobia and the LGBTQ+ community’s visibility, Bob addressed the increasing number of anti-trans legislation introduced in 2023 alone.

“I did not see this. I thought what I was seeing, I was imagining it would be continual progress,” he said. “I never thought it would be this backtrack. The backtrack is what blows my mind. Like, one step forward, two steps back. Paula Abdul predicted this in the eighties, you know what I mean? We had no clue it would end up [like this].”

Bob’s remarks on anti-trans bills naturally led to a discussion about the country’s current political climate and the divisiveness that only seems to worsen.

“It is no longer just like ‘Oh well, you vote this way, and I vote that way,” he said. “You lean left, and I lean right.’ It’s like, you think I’m a groomer; I think you’re a fascist. You think I’m after your kids; I think you are weaponizing your children.”

He added, “There was a group of people I think in Canada marching around with signs that said, and they were chanting, ‘Leave our kids alone.’ I’m like, ‘B***h, I didn’t even f**king know you had kids until you said something. Like I didn’t even know you existed until you came here.”

There’s no word on when We’re Here Season 4 will premiere on HBO. Bob the Drag Queen and the other seasons 1-3 co-hosts, Shangela and Eureka, will not host the fourth season.

Instead, Drag Race alums Jaida Essence Hall, Sasha Velour and Priyanka will take over the reins.
