A suspect has been arrested in the killing of Nisaa Walcott, a New York mother whose body was found in a plastic storage container in the Bronx.

Khalid Barrow, 21, was taken into custody on Saturday following the discovery of Walcott's body. According to CBS News New York, Barrow is the victim's cousin.

Confirmed by the New York Police Department to People, Walcott was found by a passerby on Friday, Feb. 25 in the New York borough. Walcott was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services.

Her brothers reported her missing one day before authorities identified her body. They shared with CBS News New York that they decided to contact authorities after receiving questionable texts from their sister.

"The language that was being used was like, wait a minute, that's not my sister," Eugene Butler, one of Walcott's siblings, told the outlet.

The NYPD has a video of Barrow entering the victim's East Harlem apartment building with her but exiting the place alone, The New York Post reports. Detectives have also viewed the footage that shows the 21-year-old removing a plastic container from the victim's building on the day of her body's discovery. According to The New York Post, Barrow is charged with murder and concealing a human corpse.

Walcott was a beloved member of her community, and neighbors and loved ones are grief-stricken over her passing. Candles were lit outside of her home, and those who knew the 35-year-old remember her as a loving and happy woman.

"The way she died did not represent who she was as a person," Walcott's friend, Delia Soto, told NBC 4 New York. "She's full of life, full of everything that makes people happy. She sees you sad, she smiles with you."

Walcott leaves behind a 14-year-old son, whose family and friend's told CBS News New York was extremely close to his mother. He's now with his father as he grapples with this unimaginable loss.

Authorities await Walcott's autopsy results to determine the cause of death and proceed with the investigation.
