Former chief brand officer at Uber Bozoma Saint John was recently given a prestigious honor while visiting Ghana.
The marketing executive, who currently serves as the chief marketing officer at Endeavor, shared a photo of the event on her Instagram page. Saint John was enstooled as an Odupomma, which translates to "Queen: the tree with the sacred fruit that nurtures knowledge, wisdom and courage" at the January 2 ceremony by King of Akwamu, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III.
"On January 2, 2019 by the decree and citation of the King of Akwamu, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III of the Akan people, on the banks of the Volta River in the Eastern Region of Ghana, I WAS OFFICIALLY ENSTOOLED AS ODUPOMMA (Queen: The tree with the sacred fruit that nurtures knowledge, wisdom and courage)," she wrote.
Ghanian news outlet Graphic Online reported Saint John was visiting the country for the Full Circle Festival she organized alongside actor Boris Kodjoe as Blavity previously reported. The 41-year-old was enstooled with actor Michael Jai White who received the title of Oduapong meaning “King: a tree firmly rooted."
"I am exceedingly proud of this great honor, and will do my best to uphold the respect of our people as I represent us in the diaspora. Congratulations to @officialmichaeljai on his enstoolment as the Odupong (King: The tree with strong roots that does not fear the storm) Here’s to our royal lineage and future!" she continued.
In 2017, Saint John held the title of marketing executive at Apple Music after joining the company during its acquisition of Beats Music. The daughter of Ghanian parents sat with Nana Akufo-Addo, the president of the Republic of Ghana, to discuss how she would contribute to the continued growth of Ghana and posted a photo of the meeting on her Instagram page.
"Yesterday, on the last business day of my trip to Ghana, His Excellency, The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo invited me back to the Presidential Office at the Jubilee House," she wrote. "Exactly one year ago, we had our first meeting during which he asked me what I would do to contribute to the health of Ghana as its daughter in the diaspora."
"I’m committed to continue working on behalf of the country of Ghana, with the offices in the government (including the Ghana Tourism Authority) in order to increase the visibility of its rich history, dynamic culture, incomparable hospitality and promising future," she continued.
In another post, the new "Queen" wrote a series of hashtags celebrating the honor.
"#CallMeByMyName #WeComeFromKingsAndQueens #RoyalBloodline #WarriorWoman #FullCircleFestival2018 #YearOfReturn2019 #WAVsHoliday," she captioned.
We've never been more excited to say, "Yass, Queen!"
