Brian McKnight was trending over the weekend after photos of him resurfaced on social media and fans criticized him for showing love to his stepchildren he shares with his wife, Dr. Lelani Mendoza, while allegedly ignoring most of his biological children.

The “Anytime” artist has four children. His two sons, Brian Jr. and Niko, were from his first marriage to his college sweetheart, Julie, from 1990 to 2003. Then there is his daughter Brianna and son Clyde from previous relationships, Atlanta Black Star reported.

When McKnight and Julie split, he married Mendoza years later, who had two children, Julia and Jack, from previous relationships. However, the 53-year-old was slammed over an Instagram post about Julia’s birthday.

On Saturday, a Twitter user shared a screenshot of the Instagram post from December 13, 2022. The snapshot featured McKnight and his stepdaughter posing in front of a BMW he and Mendoza bought for her 21st birthday.

“Today we celebrate you Jules on your birthday your mom and I couldn’t be prouder of you and I couldn’t ask for a better daughter than you!!! Happy birthday to the best daughter ever! Love u a zillion,” he wrote in the caption.

The Twitter user called McKnight a “nasty soul” and criticized his caption, implying he only had one daughter.

“He disowned the black kids he claimed they are lazy and was using him. He’s one of those dads,” another user said, condemning his actions.

Fans also called out McKnight in January after the couple had their first child together and named him Brian Kainoa Makoa McKnight.

“I just learned that Brian McKnight named his newborn Brian McKnight. He has an adult son named Brian McKnight Jr. This man is diabolical,” another Twitter user said.

Another fan noticed McKnight only mentioned the children with Mendoza in his Instagram bio while omitting his children.

“Dang, this is so messed up. I feel so bad for the kids that’s involved,” one user tweeted.

McKnight shared details about his relationship with his estranged children in an unearthed clip from 2019.

He denied claims from his children and said he “never missed a day of child support.” However, he regretted offering his children “tough love” during that time.

McKnight has not publicly responded to the Twitter claims.
