A Florida bride and her caterer have been charged with sneaking marijuana into the food served at a wedding without the guests’ consent or knowledge, causing some of them to require medical attention.
Bride Danya Shea Svoboda and Joycelyn Montrinice Bryant are being charged with culpable negligence, delivery of marijuana and violating Florida’s Anti-Tampering Act, CNN reports.
Police documents state that the Feb. 19 wedding was held at a clubhouse in Longwood and attended by nearly 50 guests, Law and Crime reports. Things went haywire after guests started eating. After several attendees started getting sick, Seminole County deputies arrived at the clubhouse. Several guests were treated by county fire rescue personnel for “symptoms consistent with that of someone who has used illegal drugs,” according to affidavits.
Several guests said they felt “stoned” and “ill and high,” CNN reports. Another said they were feeling “weird, tingly, fidgety, and had an extremely dry mouth” after eating the wedding food. One guest also experienced paranoia. She was taken to the hospital, where she allegedly became “loud and unruly,” according to CNN, and had to be given something to calm down.
Documents also allege that the bride consented to Bryant lacing the food without the guests’ knowledge.
Authorities collected items that may have contained residue for testing, including some lasagna and desserts eaten at the event.
Urine test results also showed that three wedding guests tested positive for cannabis.
Svoboda and Bryant have been released from custody on bond and are set to be arraigned on June 7.
