Burna Boy is receiving wide praise after he put on an electric performance at Madison Square Garden in New York while becoming the first Nigerian to headline at the iconic venue. Music fans, Nigerians in particular, expressed jubilation when they flocked to social media to reflect on Thursday’s historic “One Night in Space” concert.

In addition to selling out Madison Square Garden, the concert attracted more than 81,000 viewers who watched the show live on YouTube, BusinessDay reports. Fans across the world, including Nigeria, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada, tuned in to the livestream.

Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, went to Twitter after the show to express his gratitude for New York.

“The Journey in NY has been a blessing,” he wrote. “PlayStation theatre in 2017, Gramercy theatre in 2018, The Apollo in 2019 and Today 2022 we are in MADISON SQUARE GARDEN. Thank you NEW YORK for sticking with me all these years through this great Journey. Love, Damini.”

Other artists who have sold out Madison Square Garden include Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Adele, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Justin Bieber and Mariah Carey.

In 2022, Burna Boy has made stops in several cities around the world, including Amsterdam, Dublin and Manchester. The Nigerian artist is also preparing for an upcoming show in Atlanta.
