Omar Sy is teaming up again with his Intouchables directors – Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano – on their next film, another dramedy, this one titled Samba, which Sy will of course star in, alongside Charlotte Gainsbourg, Tahar Rahim and Izya Higelin.
Plot details on the Gaumont/Quad/Ten co-production are currently being kept under-wraps – other than the filmmakers calling it “a crowdpleaser, an ensemble comedy about friendship, solidarity and deals with current issues we can relate to in different parts of the world.”
The $20 million film, which is currently in post-production, is being screened to international distributors at Cannes, and is said to be drawing lots of interest. So I’d expect a 2014 release. I won’t be surprised if The Weinstein Company picks it up, as they did with Omar Sy’s last 2 films – Intouchables, which was a global box office hit, and which Sy won the Cesar Award for; And On The Other Side Of The Tracks, most recently, which wasn’t quite as big a hit.
His new agents at CAA have certainly been busy, getting the actor work, since he left France for the sun and fun of LA living.
