Announced this morning… during its run this year, the Cannes Film Festival will host a fund-raising event for… Haiti.

The fundraiser, to be presented by Giorgio Armani, will benefit various organizations and their ongoing humanitarian work in Haiti, like Sean Penn’s J/P HRO, Paul Haggis’ Artists for Peace and Justice, and Petra Nemcova’s Happy Hearts Fund.

As I'm sure most know, since the devastating 2010 earthquake, Penn has been quite present and vocal in his support for the relief effort in Haiti.

As for Haggis’ org, it was established in 2009 to help underserved children and families via education and health programs.

And finally Petra Nemcova (the supermodel) and her Happy Hearts Fund, started its work in Haiti in 2007.

The fundraiser will take place on May 18, calling it Haiti: Carnival in Cannes; the first event of its kind for the festival since 1996.

S&A won't be at Cannes this year unfortunately. But I'm working to partner up with some folks who will be there so that we can get reviews of those very few films of the Diaspora that will screen there this year.
