Captain America 4 is now ready to go with a director.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Julius Onah will direct the fourth installment of the Captain America series. The film stars Anthony Mackie, whose character Sam Wilson was named the new “star-spangled man with a plan” in the Disney+ Marvel series, Captain America and the Winter Soldier.
Onah is best known for directing 2018's 'The Cloverfield Paradox.'
He also directed 2019’s Indie Spirit Award-nominated film Luce, starring Octavia Spencer and Kelvin Harrison Jr. He will be working from a script by Malcolm Spellman, who created and served as head writer for Captain America and the Winter Soldier. Dalan Musson, one of the series’ staff writers, is also co-writing the script.
The film will see Sam come into his own during his tenure as Captain America, but aside from that, not much else is known, including if Chris Evans will make a cameo as Steve Rogers.
However, as fans learned in Avengers: Endgame, Steve lived out his lifetime during his mission to put the Infinity Stones back in their proper place in the timeline after defeating Thanos. After he came back as an old man, he gave his mantle to Sam, effectively writing Rogers out of the MCU. At least, that’s the idea.

“I think at this day and age in America, I think we are open-minded to the idea of having my face represent us as a country, my race represent us as a country because we are truly a melting pot,” he said. “So there is no distinctive look or feel or design of an American–we’re all Americans…I want my Captain America to represent everybody, not just a specific group of people.”
