There are few things worse than being taken advantage of when you’re most vulnerable — a sad truth Seven Robinson-Laney learned after he survived a hit-and-run.
The crash, which occurred over a month ago, was just the beginning of the 18-year-old’s problems.
According to the St. Louis Dispatch, a St. Louis firefighter is being questioned by authorities for allegedly stealing Robinson-Laney’s wallet and credit card at the crash scene. Robinson-Laney said the wallet, still not recovered, contained hundreds of dollars and two gift cards he received a few days prior for his 18th birthday.
Even though it’s been weeks since the crash, and the St. Louis police have a video of someone who matches the description of the accused putting the 18-year-old’s wallet in his coat, no charges have been filed against the firefighter.
“And he fits the description of what I gave them,” Robinson-Laney said, according to the St. Louis Dispatch.
Plus, according to Fox 2 Now, Robinson-Laney discovered a few fraudulent charges on his debit card while recovering in the hospital.
St. Louis Police confirmed they are investigating the incident, though they haven’t yet made an arrest. The St. Louis Dispatch reported the firefighter is still on the job amid the investigation.
The fatal hit-and-run occurred in February. A driver ran a red light and struck the SUV Robinson-Laney and four of his friends were in at the time. The SUV flew over a guardrail and plummeted down to a road below.
Anthony Robinson and Richard Boyd, both 19, 18-year-old Bryanna Dentman-Johnson and 20-year-old Corntrail McKinley were killed in the crash.
Days later, the driver, 34-year-old Cedric Dixon, turned himself in. He’s being held without bond and faces 17 felonies.
