Cardi B and Offset flaunted their blended family on the May/June issue of Essence magazine. For the featured article, the star couple talked about their relationship, Cardi B’s pregnancy and how she set out to forge a strong bond with Offset’s children from previous relationships.

Cardi was hesitant to pursue a relationship with Offset.

Offset revealed that he slid into the DMs of one of Cardi’s friends in an attempt to invite her to a dinner he was hosting.

“When my friend told me that he was trying to holler at me, I was like, ‘I’m not trying to deal with no industry rappers, because I already know what type of time they’re on,'” Cardi told Essence. “I was scared. I’m a relationship girl.”

She also admits that she wanted to protect her newly formed image and avoid getting played by the popular rapper.

“I don’t want to be seen in public with a rapper if he’s not serious about me,'” Cardi said. “It would be embarrassing to go on a date with a guy, and my career is just starting off, and then the next day he’s not into me anymore. I would’ve been crushed.”
The couple eventually married on Sept. 20, 2017.

Cardi's team worried that getting pregnant would put her career in jeopardy.

As the musical guest for Saturday Night Live, Cardi announced she was expecting her first child, but her team was concerned about how it would impact her career.

“I was really nervous because everybody around me was nervous,” the Bodak Yellow rapper recalled. “People who work in the industry said that nothing like this had really happened before, when somebody was at the height of their career and they got pregnant.”

During this time of intense doubt, Offset became her rock and assured her that she would be the hottest emcee.

“He kept telling me, ‘Trust me. It’s going to be alright. You’re huge. Everybody loves you. People are going to understand,'” she said. “And I just kept telling myself, ‘I have to put out my album before I get big and I can’t do these music videos. I can’t let everybody in the industry that believes in me down.'”

Cardi B desired to shape a healthy family dynamic.

Cardi B and Offset share two children together: Kulture, 3, and their new 7-month-old son Wave, who Cardi B revealed publicly on her Instagram page.
The couple also shared pictures of their Essence cover. Offset’s children, daughter Kalea, 7, and sons Jordan, 12, and Kody, 7, were also included on the cover.

Twitter was beside itself when the cover was published on social media.

After catching a glimpse of the Essence photos, Twitter users applauded the family.

Cardi told the publication that gaining the love and acceptance of Offset’s children was extremely important to her.

“After we got married, that’s when I first met his kids,” Cardi said in her interview. “I always wanted them to love me, and they really do. They tell me that. I feel it, and I hope that we always have a great relationship.”

Offset also expresses his deep appreciation of his wife’s willingness to embrace his children and alleviate any stress in their relationship.

“It’s a blessing to be able to have them all together, and to have a wife who’s open and treats them as if they’re her kids,” he told Essence. “It could be an issue, but I don’t have to go through that, and that’s beautiful.”
