"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is an upcoming fantasy film based on the novel of the same name by J. K. Rowling, which is essentially a spin-off of the uber-successful "Harry Potter" book and film franchise.
Carmen Ejogo (last seen in "Selma") has joined the cast of the film, which is to be directed by David Yates. Ejogo joins Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller, Samantha Morton, Colin Farrell, Faith Wood-Blagrove, Jenn Murray, Jon Voight, and Gemma Chan in the film, which follows the adventures of writer Newt Scamander (Redmayne) in New York’s secret community of witches and wizards, 70 years before Harry Potter reads his book while at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
No word yet on what character Ejogo (who will next be seen in the Chet Baker biopic opposite Ethan Hawke) will play.
Principal photography for "Fantastic Beasts" is underway in London, with a 2016 release set.
The Hollywood Reporter was first to report the news of Ejogo’s casting.
