Block, Inc., the parent company of Cash App, has agreed to a $12.5 million settlement in a class-action lawsuit. As we previously reported, the settlement comes after Cash App was accused of forcing users to send unwanted text messages through its “Invite Friends” referral program. Eligible users may receive between $88 and $147, the settlement website states. Despite the lawsuit, however, the company is defending itself from the accusations, Mass Live reported.

“Block does not admit to any wrongdoing, maintains its compliance with the law, and continues to deny the allegations against it,” the settlement reads.

Who qualifies to receive payment for the Cash App settlement?

People eligible for the Cash App class-action lawsuit are those who received referral program texts without consent between Nov. 14, 2019, and Aug. 7 of this year. Per Mass Live, these are users who didn’t “clearly and affirmatively consent in advance to receive” the text messages.

During that time period, users received a message that stated, “Hey! I’ve been using Cash App to send money and spend using the Cash Card. Try it using my code and you’ll get $5. FVRJ1PH https://cash.app/app/FVRJ1PH.”

Eligible users must be Washington residents at the time they received the message. People who qualify for the settlement must submit a form, which is available online, by Oct. 27. Those who don’t submit the form will not be eligible for the payment.

What is the special giveaway Cash App is offering in October?

While dealing with the settlement, Cash App is also providing a special offer to its users in October. Per Fox 5 San Diego, Cash App is giving its users a chance to win $100 every Friday until Oct. 24. The offer is part of the company’s Cash App Pool sweepstakes, which allows users to organize groups of people who contribute funds for a shared expense, such as a family vacation or a wedding gift.

Cash App users can enter the sweepstakes by completing an online form and explaining why they are organizing a Cash App Pool. Candidates must fill out the form by Oct. 17.
