As the world reacts to the news that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade, a law protecting women’s right to choose abortion, many celebrities have spoken out against the decision and in support of women’s reproductive rights.

Kendrick Lamar

Lamar closed his Glastonbury set with a call for women’s rights on Sunday in Somerset, England. The ‘Mr. Morales & the Big Steppers’ rapper wore a titanium and pavé diamond crown of thorns, with fake blood soaking his white shirt.

“Godspeed for women’s rights,” Lamar said. “They judge you; they judge Christ.”

Marsai Martin

Black-ish actor Marsai Martin couldn’t quite get the words out while accepting her Youngstar award; however, her message still was crystal clear.

“Listen, us young people have to continue to use our voice, use our power, every inch of our love to—hold on, I’m not good at speeches,” Martin said. “Anyways, I love y’all, I appreciate y’all and to the fellow nominees, I am so proud of us.”

Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion also took the opportunity during her Glastonbury performance to speak out against the ruling, specifically the abortion ban in her home state, Texas. Houston hottie called the decision “embarrassing” and said that her supporters do not support the legislation.

“Now, y’all know it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t take a second to call out these stupid men,” Megan said. “I mean God damn. What else you want? Texas really embarrassing me right now; y’all know that’s my home state.”

Megan added that her fans don’t support the legislation and chanted “my body, my motherf*cking choice” with the thousands in attendance.

“And I want to have it on record that the motherf*cking hot girls and hot boys do not support this bullsh*t that y’all are campaigning for.”

Keke Palmer

Singer and actor Keke Palmer took to Twitter and expressed how devastated the news left her and how she is past disgusted with the country’s inability to protect its civilians.

“I’m past disgusted w/ my country and their constant inability to protect one another’s right & keep their word,” Palmer said. “How u overturning the wrong things? So many things to overturn that make sense. But this is what you chose??”

Lizzo

Singer Lizzo took to Twitter shortly after the news of the decision to pledge $1 million, with the help of Live Nation, to support abortion access groups.

“I’m pledging $500k from my upcoming tour to Planned Parenthood and Abortion Rights,” Lizzo said. “Live Nation agreed to match— to make it 1 MILLION dollars.”

The singer went on to say that the most important thing is supporting organizations such as Planned Parenthood and the National Network of Abortion Funds by providing funding for them to continue offering services to those who need them.

“The most important thing is action & loud voices,” Lizzo said. “@PPFA, @AbortionFunds & organizations like them— will need funding to continue offering services to people who are most harmed by this ban.”

Latto

Rapper Latto accepted her first award at the BET Awards, Best New Artist while expressing her pro-choice views.

“It’s giving pro-choice,” Latto said. “It’s never giving a man policing my body.”

Eminem

Eminem, the father and guardian of three adult daughters, fired off a passionate tweet after hearing the news on his Twitter account. According to the 49-year-old rapper, he feels angry about women’s lack of rights now compared to just days ago and offered suggestions for how to help women’s rights in Michigan.

“As a father, it pisses me off that women have fewer rights 2 day than just a few days ago,” Eminem wrote. “We r fuckin goin bckwards. Here’s how to help in Michigan.”

Jazmine Sullivan

Jazmine Sullivan, who had just won best female R&B/pop artist at the BET Awards, spoke directly to the men in the audience and watched the ceremony, telling them that women need them to stand up for women and with women during these challenging times.

“It’s a hard time for us,” Sullivan said. “I want to speak directly to the men: We need y’all. We need y’all to stand up, stand up for us, stand up with us. If you’ve ever benefited from a woman making one of the toughest decisions of her life, which is to terminate a pregnancy, you need to be standing. This is not just a woman issue. This is everybody’s issue. We need your support more than ever.”

Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys also expressed disappointment over the decision by saying it demonstrates the power the court system has over women’s right to choose and who has the authority to make the choices for them.

“Fuckin bullsh*t,” Keys said. “This decision is about more than abortion; it’s about who has power over you, who has authority to make decisions for you and who is going to control how your future turns out.”

Janelle Monae

Singer and activist Janelle Monae took a moment while presenting an award at this year’s BET Awards to send a message to the supreme court and remind the world that artists make art on their terms and unapologetically.

“These artists are making art on our own terms, owning our truths and expressing ourselves freely and unapologetically in a world that tries to control and police our bodies, my body and our decisions, my body,” Monae said. “Fu*k you, Supreme Court. I know we’re celebrating us right now as we should. We absolutely deserve to celebrate — especially now we should celebrate our art by protecting our right and our truths.”

Mariah Carey

Multi-grammy-winning artist Mariah Carey shared how disheartening it is that she has to explain to her preteen daughter why women’s rights are deteriorating in front of our eyes.

“It is truly unfathomable and disheartening to have to try to explain to my 11-year-old daughter why we live in a world,” Carey said. “where women’s rights are disintegrating in front of our eyes.”

Halle Berry

Oscar-winning actor Halle Berry shared her outrage and urged something needed to be done to her 684.1K followers.

“I’m outraged! What the supreme court has done is BULLS**T,” Berry said. “Something has to be done! Guns have more rights than women. Stop this war on women & keep your laws off of our bodies. We have to ban together & NOT accept this. We can’t just post about it; we must DO SOMETHING about it.”

Questlove

Questlove shared a photo on his Instagram account of the Manhattan Bridge hours after the decision, of a green banner that reads “abortion = liberty.” He quoted a statement released by the group responsible for the banner, which remains anonymous.

“The group responsible for the action—who said they were “anonymous and unaffiliated”—shared a statement,” Questlove said. “We refuse to stand by as one of our most fundamental rights is stripped away from us. We will protest, disrupt and will vote those out of power who do not fight for us. We will Aid and Abet Abortion! Unjust laws are meant to be broken. We will collectively create access. F*ck SCOTUS—we are doing it anyway.”

Questlove then listed various abortion access organizations for donations.
