Last November, I playfully thought up a fictitious scenario in which Chad Coleman’s casting as Tyreese in The Walking Dead was all part of a master plan to set-up his eventual casting as Luke Cage in the long-awaited, much-anticipated and discussed big screen adaptation of the Marvel character.
Here’s how it all went, in brief:
Marvel and the producers of The Walking Dead are in cahoots on it. Marvel has a Luke Cage movie in its development slate, and want Chad Coleman for the role. So they had to think of a way to work Coleman into mainstream consciousness, so that by the time the studio is set to package its Luke Cage movie, Coleman would practically be a household name, given the immense popularity of the TV series (The Walking Dead), and what would be a prime, pivotal role he’s been tapped to play in it – Tyreese. So… in essence, Marvel hopes he blows up on The Walking Dead, making him enough of a *name* to cast in a Luke Cage movie!
That post was published last November, just as the recent season of The Walking Dead had begun.
Skip ahead to today, to an interview with MTV Movies, in which Coleman makes his interest in playing Luke Cage publicly known for the very first time (that I’m aware of).
He has some competition though – Idris Elba, Michael Jai White, Tyrese Gibson, and a few others, have all expressed interest in the part!
Here’s the MTV interview with Coleman making his pitch:
