In March, I challenged myself and our readers to 7 days of unapologetic self-care. And guess what? I didn’t do everything in the 7 days. This might look like failure, but it isn’t. Even though I didn’t complete the challenge in one week, I still made a conscious effort to care for myself more. I took my time and did what I could over the course of a month. This is what happened in the past 30 days:

I realized that we spend too much time trying to get everything “right.”

Everybody is trying to get off the struggle bus. We want our bills to be paid off, credit to be in order and for our eyebrows and edges to be on fleek all at the same damn time.

You should be proud to be on the struggle bus. It’s impossible to have everything in order all at once. Life is a process. Don’t focus on the product. Focus on your progress within the process. It’ll change the way you view things. As long as you’re on the struggle bus, you’re on your way somewhere.

I feel happier, more relaxed and less stressed out.

Something magical happens when you put yourself first. I’m always the first to scream, “Self-love is the best love!” but never realized what that felt like until self-care came into the picture.

Money stopped being a problem

Be easy, I’m not balling, but I’m not broke either. When I started using my paycheck toward things that would enhance my quality of life, I stopped being stressed about the amount of ‘0’s in my bank account. This might not be the reality for everybody, but it very well could be.

I’m going to keep doing it

This challenge was a great way for me to get my feet wet. I’m doing the things that I should’ve been doing all along, and I’m doing them with a purpose. I want to live my best life. And for me, that means loving myself unconditionally by caring for my mind, body and soul.

Did you try the 7-day self-care challenge? If not, what are you waiting for?! If you did, let us know how it went in the comments below!
