Chance The Rapper's charitable giving game is undefeated.
Whether it is pledging $1M to help Chicago Public Schools, bringing kids joy with new Jordans or renting out theaters for free movies, Lil' Chano form 79th is about that giving-spirit life!
On Wednesday night, Chance brought a little more joy by hosting a kids' night at The Field Museum in Chicago. Proceeds from the evening benefited the homeless through Chance's organization SocialWorks.
According to ABC Houston, "A Night at the Museum" was free for students in need, while others were asked to donate $15, which will go toward the homeless community.
"Being the city that has one of the worst and coldest winters in America, I think it's important to take some time to appreciate and work with and work for the homeless population in Chicago," Chance told the crowd.
About 82,000 people are homeless in Chicago, and of that number, approximately 18,000 of them are Chicago Public School students.
"I think it's fantastic that a product of Chicago Public Schools is giving back to the community, really the world," noted a Chicago Public School teacher, Julie Trejo.
"It means to me very a lot, because he gives people things to those in need and all of that, and it's pretty good," said Shaylah Clay, a fan of Chance's.
The event included music, dancing and even gifts, as other organizations joined with SocialWorks to donate backpacks and toys. Ultimately, the event promoted awareness for a significant issue in the city, according to Chicago Coalition for the Homeless' executive director, Doug Schenkelberg.
"We know that a lot of homelessness isn't seen, it's hidden," Schenkelberg said. "It's really important for people to recognize when you see someone on the street that's just a sliver of the problem."
