In case you didn’t already know, there are at least 2 black characters in Suzanne Collins’ best-selling trilogy of YA novelsThe Hunger Games, which I’m sure you know by now, is being adapted into a movie (we’ve covered it in one or two posts).
Of note, in the film, the characters named Thresh and Rue, also known as Tributes, as well as Cinna, Katniss Everdeen’s stylist, will be played by relative newcomers, Dayo Okeniyi, and Amandla Stenberg, and Lenny Kravitz, respectively. Although, while Thresh and Rue are definitely African American in the book, as I’ve read, Cinna isn’t described as such.
Today, we’ve got your first-look at character posters for Rue (Stenberg) and Cinna (Kravitz); both follow in full below. I couldn’t find one for Thresh (sorry Dayo Okeniyi fans; though I’m sure one will turn up soon enough).
The first installment of the film adaptation franchise is scheduled to hit theaters in March 2012. By then I hope to have finally read my copy of Koushun Takami’s Battle Royale, and watched the 2000 Kinji Fukasaku movie that inspired it 🙂
