Radio personality Charlamagne Tha God is giving Cardi B her flowers for being an artist that has never hesitated to welcome and support new talent in the music industry, specifically with fellow female rappers.

Since the 30-year-old Bronx native has become a household name, it’s apparent she recognizes her value and impact in the music industry. As the public witnessed during her two seasons on VH1’s reality TV show Love & Hip Hop, she didn’t receive much support on her music journey. During a recent episode of Its Up There podcast hosted by Big Loon, The Breakfast Club veteran praised the singer for thinking beyond her fame and helping up-and-coming female rappers.

“Salute to Cardi. Cardi shifted that in the culture,” he said during the interview. “Because Cardi made it where you’re the OG, you’re the person that’s made all the money, you sold all the records, but you have no problem putting your arm around that next person.”

He categorized her with hip-hop giants JAY-Z and Drake when it came to rappers who used their influence to cosign an artist, which helped rookies gain some notoriety or their song become a hit. He first noted how JAY-Z bigged up other artists, listing some examples of people he believed the “Family Feud” rapper helped.

“Cardi did for female rap what JAY-Z and Drake did. Like JAY-Z, whatever that next thing was out, JAY-Z was jumping on it. Whether it was Juvenile‘s ‘Huh.’ Whether it was Houston, whether it was Rick Ross…whoever it was, Jay was jumping on there,” the best-selling author said.

The South Carolina native went on to address how Drake has hopped on different artists’ songs for the remix, which puts them on to his worldwide fanbase and upgrades their lives. The Grammy winner alluded to his effect on his most recent album, Her Loss, with 21 Savage when he said the line, “I jump on your song and make a label think they need ya…for real,” on the song “On BS.”

“Drake did it with lesser-known artists,” he said. “What Drake did was make the record big.”

“I think what Jay did with those co-signs was he made the artist big,” he added.

Cardi B included female music artists Latto and Normani in the music video for W.A.P., a collab she did with the “Houston Hottie” Megan Thee Stallion. Last year, Cardi was not only a huge fan of GloRilla‘s song “Tomorrow,” quoting it while fighting her court case against two women who claimed she had them jumped in a strip club, but joined recorded some bars for its remix, “Tomorrow 2.” This year alone, she’s already teamed up with Latto for the “Put It On Da Floor Again” remix, and she just announced a new song with FendiDa Rapper that will be dropping on Friday.

In addition, Charlamagne mentioned that Cardi B’s participation in music videos and support of artists on her social media platforms makes her someone who not only will cosign a new artist but helps their music reach more people.

“I think Cardi’s doing both. I think Cardi’s helping to make the artist big, and she’s helping to make the music big.”
