Disney+’s new original movie Cheaper By The Dozen is a reimagining of the 1950 and 2003 family classics of the same name. It follows the story of the blended family of 12, the Bakers, as they navigate a hectic home life while running their own family business. It stars actors Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff as the matriarch and patriarch.
The film also stars 10-year-old actress Mykal-Michelle Harris, who many might know as Santamonica Johnson from ABC’s mixed-Ish.
Earlier this month, Shadow and Act spoke with Mykal-Michelle about Cheaper By The Dozen and asked her what it was like working on a film alongside so many co-stars.
“It was so so so so so much fun. And I don’t usually work with a lot, a lot of kids. So working with nine other kids on set was crazy. It was so much fun,” she told us.
While one might assume a set with so many kids would get hectic, Harris shared that the film set was pretty relaxed.
“It wasn’t like absolute chaos, but I’m super mellow,” she said. “Just chilling.”
As for her relationship with her co-stars, Mykal-Michelle says they all became family while working on Cheaper By The Dozen.
“Every time I go to a new show, I always develop a new family or show movie you know, not same thing. But you know, I mean, I always develop a new family,” she explained. “And it was so so much fun. Getting to meet them. A lot of names to remember but you know, still fun.”
Cheaper By The Dozen is now streaming on Disney+.
The film also stars Erika Christensen, Timon Kyle Durrett, Journee Brown, Kylie Rogers, Andre Robinson, Caylee Blosenski, Aryan Simhadri, Leo Abelo Perry, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Christian Cote, Sebastian Cote and Luke Prael.
It is directed by Gail Lerner from a screenplay by Kenya Barris & Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry. They adapted the screenplay from the novel by Frank Bunker Gilbreth Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey.
