From director Aaron Inman, who actually sent this to me several months ago, when I asked filmmakers whose films were rejected by Sundance to let me know about who they are.
Aaron was one of a handful who replied, and I had his email tagged, but, haven’t been able to revisit it until now (I’m constantly overloaded with emails, so, some times I miss an item or two).
All that said, I’ve seen the short film, titled Illuminate, and loved it! It speaks to the untamed imagination of any child, and I think the story, in all its wonderful simplicity, and universality, will touch most of us.
Unfortunately, I can’t share the film with you just yet, because Aaron is still touring the film festival circuit with it, and so until he makes the film available online, all I can offer at this point is its trailer, which is embedded below.
In short, the film follows a young boy who, wanting to relieve his mother of her depression, decides that the only solution that makes sense to him is to build a rocket-ship, so that they can fly away together to the moon, which he believes will take her away from the pain.
It stars Milton T.J. Taylor and Yetide Badaki.
Here’s the teaser:
