The entire state of Illinois appears to be upset about the Jussie Smollett decision and determined to make him pay for it.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel wants Smollett to pay, literally.

Emanuel, who called the announcement a “whitewashing of justice,” doesn’t believe ten stacks is enough, according to The Chicago Sun-Times. He wants to bill Smollett approximately $130K for the resources used for the investigation.

“I think there’s a whole level [of] ethical costs because he’s still walking around [saying] `Hey, I’m innocent. Everything I said from day one is true.’ We’re gonna get the resources back,” Emanuel said during a Thursday morning interview with WGN-AM. “But, come with those resources is, implicitly, if you pay it, that the city spent money to uncover what the grand jury discovered.”

Smollett’s legal team disagrees.

"It is the Mayor and the Police Chief who owe Jussie — owe him an apology — for dragging an innocent man’s character through the mud,” they said. “Jussie has paid enough.”

Additionally, The Hill reports Illinois state Rep. Michael McAuliffe said he would introduce a bill to deny tax credits to any Chicago-based movie or film production that hires Smollett.

“The General Assembly here in Illinois gives a very robust tax credit to any production company that plans on filming TV shows or movies,” the Republican told CNN.

“Someone like…Smollett or someone else that would commit the same type of act should not benefit from this generous, robust tax credit that is offered from the city of Chicago residents and the tax payers of the state of Illinois.”

McAuliffe’s bill is another high-profile reaction to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office’s decision to drop 16 felony charges against the Empire star for a staged hate crime. In exchange for the “alternative prosecution,” Smollett forfeited $10K in bond and will complete 16 hours of community service.
