As we have mentioned several times before, the touring edition of the L.A. Rebellion film series has
been making its way across North America,
first in Philadelphia and then Toronto and now the series is currently
playing at the Museum of the Moving
Image in N.Y. before coming Chicago in May.
The logistics for the Chicago screenings have been set in
terms of locations and dates and I will be reporting about that next week.
But, as I wrote about over a month ago, (HERE), as an advance preview of what’s to come to
Chicago, a program of 7 short films will be screened next Thursday March 28th starting at 6PM and on Saturday March 30th starting at 12:30PM at the Gene Siskel
Film Center in downtown Chicago.
Among the films to be screened are Water Ritual #1: An Urban Rite of Purification by Barbara McCullough, I & I: An African Allegory by Ben Caldwell
(pictured above) and Define by O.Funmilayo Makarah and
the filmmakers themselves will be in
person as well for the screening.
And now The Black
Cinema House in Chicago, which I have written about HERE and HERE, will be hosting a Q and A with the filmmakers about their careers in arts and community outreach and collaboration on March 29th
starting at 7PM,
Northwestern
University professor and film scholar Jacqueline Stewart, who also was one of the curators for the L.A.
Rebellion series, will be present to introduce the films and to lead an audience
discussion after the program at all the screenings.
