Chick-fil-A is apologizing for its “poor choice of words” after Twitter users accused the company of racial profiling a customer via a Twitter response about menu items.

A user tweeted the chicken restaurant on Friday, asking about spicy nuggets.

“Grilled spicy deluxe but still noooo spicy nuggets…………@ChickfilA,” they tweeted.

“Your community will be the first to know if spicy items are added to the permanent menu, Don!” the official Twitter account for Chick-fil-A wrote, responding to the customers’ tweet.

In a statement to NBC News, a Chick-fil-A spokesperson said the word ‘community’ is used to describe their store locations.

“The response was a poor choice of words but was not intended in any way to be insensitive or disrespectful. We often use the term ‘community’ in a broader sense to talk about places where we operate restaurants and serve the surrounding community,” a spokesperson said in the statement read.

While the initial tweet had only six replies, Chick-fil-A’s response gained attention for its choice of wording, racking up more than 1,000 replies and 6,700 quote tweets.

Many Twitter users questioned the account’s intention to use the term “your community,” unsure if it was targeting the identity of the user (Don), who appears to be Black.

“Explain yourself quickly,” one user tweeted.

“Not Chick-fil-A calling you n*ggers,” another tweeted.

“Your community? I’m gonna need an explanation for that comment. ‘Our’ community wouldn’t wanna think that there was some racial undertones behind that,” another tweet read.

“Chic…this aint a good look. What you meant by that specifically?” another user questioned in a tweet.

Other users pointed out it is a typical response from the fast-food chain’s social media accounts. One shared a screenshot of another tweet from Chick-fil-A at the end of last month.

On the other side of the argument, users are confused about how ‘community’ stirred so many emotions in Black customers. Do you feel Chic-fil-a was racially profiling? or do you believe folks took it the wrong way?
