Ahead of the highly anticipated film adaptation of her 2018 novel Children of Blood and Bone, author Tomi Adeyemi is set to release her next book, a standalone novel titled The Siren, later this year. According to People, Henry Holt and Co., an imprint of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, announced the news on Tuesday and shared that The Siren will follow Emery, a Dartmouth student whose life is changed when she meets Roux and her stepbrother Eli, thrusting her into a mysterious world of luxury and secrets.
Adeyemi said ‘The Siren’ is ‘the book of my soul’
The Siren, which is set to come out on Sept. 29, will tackle themes like mental health, power, and survival, as Adeyemi calls on elements of contemporary fiction to bring Emery’s story to life. In a statement included in Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group’s announcement, the author described it as “the book of my soul.”
“It is the rawest, most heartbreaking and most amazing thing I’ve ever experienced writing,” Adeyemi said.
Jean Feiwel, Senior Vice-President and Publisher at Macmillan Publishers who acquired the book, also deemed the novel “category-defying” and “genre-bending.”
“It is beautiful, ugly, fantastic, real, raw, horrifying, romantic, and we can’t wait for you to read it,” she said in a statement, per Deadline.
The ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ movie will hit theaters in January 2027
A few months after The Siren hits bookshelves, the film adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone will hit theaters in January 2027. The movie will closely follow the novel, which tells the story of Zélie Adebola, a young woman in the fictional land of Orïsha, where magic has been eradicated due to King Saran’s eradication of Adebola’s people. To take back control of their powers, Adebola must team up with her brother, Tzain, and Saran’s children, Princess Amari and Prince Inan, to overthrow the king’s tyrannical reign and bring back magic to Orïsha.
The movie’s star-studded cast includes Thuso Mbedu, Tosin Cole, Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, Cynthia Erivo, Viola Davis, and more.
The film adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone is set to release on Jan. 15, 2027.
