Award-winning Nigerian novelist and writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was one of eight recipients recently awarded an honorary degree from Johns Hopkins University. The honor comes for her outstanding work in her field.

This isn’t Adichie’s first degree from the university. In 2003 the same year that she published her first novel Purple Hibiscus, Adichie graduated with her Master’s in creative writing. The authoress also holds a master’s degree in Africana studies from Yale University.

In recent times, Adiche became very well known for her second Ted Talk “We Should All be Feminists” from which her verse on Beyonce’s song “Flawlesss” comes. She’s also the author of the award-winning novel Americanah.

In a message to the 2016 graduates, she says “Embrace ignorance, say those words ‘I don’t know’ because by embracing ignorance you open up the possibility of knowledge.”

Congratulations, Chimamanda!
