During a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, promoting his latest film, Chinese Zodiac (which he wrote, directed and stars in), Jackie Chan revealed that he might soon be reuniting with his Rush Hour co-star Chris Tucker, in an buddy-action-comedy tentatively titled Skip Tracer.
You thought I was going to say Rush Hour 4, didn't you? Not quite, although, per the THR piece, Chan says that it'll be along the same lines.
He didn't give plot details, but did add that Chris Tucker has the script and is reading it, so it's not a done deal yet, because Chris still has to OK it, and attach himself to it as well.
But it's kind of inevitable that any similar buddy-action-comedy film Tucker and Chan do together is going to be compare to the Rush Hour movies, isn't it Jackie?
"Personally, I feel that if he were to pick it up, it would be better if we turned it into Rush Hour 4 but I do think that three movies for the franchise is a perfect ending. It would be better to start a new buddy movie with someone new," Chan said.
It was just about a week ago when Chan said this about the Rush Hour franchise of movies: "I have reasons to do each film, I have something to say. Unlike Rush Hour – there was no reason [in making it], you just give me the money and I'm fine. I dislike Rush Hour the most, but ironically it sold really well in the U.S. and Europe."
I'm frankly done with the Rush Hour Franchise. I think I was done after the second one, and have no interest in seeing another one. If he and Tucker do pair up again for this Skip Tracer, my hope is that it would be very different from the Rush Hour movies, and really distinguish itself apart from them. I don't need to see another film that, while not having Rush Hour in its title, is pretty much along the lines of Rush Hour.
Maybe instead make it a serious, character-driven action movie.
