Ciara didn’t hold back and called out Jason Whitlock for his “irresponsible” comment against Black women.

On Jan. 27, the media personality stopped by Tucker Carlson Tonight and shared his thoughts on police brutality and the violent death of Tyre Nichols following a fatal attack by five Black police officers earlier in January.

“Everybody involved in this on the street level was either 24 to 32 years old. Everybody. It was a group of young Black men, five on one. Looked like gang violence to me,” he began, as reported by Essence. “It looked like what young Black men do when they’re supervised by a single Black woman.”

Whitlock’s comment didn’t sit well with many people, including Ciara.

The following day, the “Level Up” singer took to Twitter to respond to Whitlock’s comment, calling it “irresponsible.”

“As a black man to get on national tv and say something like this is irresponsible,” wrote the singer. “A lot of amazing kids have come from single mothers. For you to also undermine single black women in the midst of this tragedy is so sad. This woman just lost her son! Do better!”

Others backed Ciara’s response by calling out Whitlock in the same thread.

“Just ignore him he wants the attention that’s why he goes on tv to say stuff like this…ignore ignorant people,” former NFL player Reggie Bush tweeted.

Television personality Holly Robinson Peete chimed in, sharing her thoughts on Whitlock’s comment.

“Thank you @ciara What a self loathing, cold, reckless, stereotypical, insensitive clout chasing untruth to spew in front of millions,” the actor wrote. “Tyre called out for his mama and this was his takeaway? Neither Tyre’s mother or Chief CJ are single black moms so WHY say that? Pathetic troll.”

Not long after Ciara shared her tweet, Whitlock responded with a post standing by his previous remark.

“Appreciate the feedback, Ciara. But at some point, we are going to have to deal with the negative impact of baby-mama culture. It’s destructive and unsustainable. Come up out of the denial. Denial won’t fix the problem. Thanks,” he replied.
