Following an attempted arrest at a nightclub, a Cincinnati, Ohio, police officer has been suspended Wednesday for using the n-word.

Officer Dennis Barnette was caught on his partner's body cam using the slur while arresting a Black woman at Brownstone Nightclub in Roselawn on Saturday.

According to local news outlet, Fox 19, the victim is the daughter of NAACP board member Yolanda Miller. The officer allegedly slammed the victim into a police cruiser at the time of the arrest, Miller said.

“So the fact that he grabbed her and slammed her, I was really upset about that,” Miller told Fox 19. “How dare you use your badge and your position and the authority that you have to push on a defensive woman?”

Police Chief Eliot Isaac wrote in an email to City Manager Patrick Duhaney detailing the incident and Barnette's use of the slur. "This type of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated inside the department," Isaac wrote in the email obtained by the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The email states Barnette was called out to the nightclub late Saturday to assist with parking and traffic when he attempted to arrest the woman engaged in a traffic dispute. Isaac wrote the woman allegedly pushed Barnette but that has yet to be confirmed by media reports.

Moments later,  Barnette can be heard saying the slur on his partner's body cam.

"Subsequent to the incident, Officer Barnette is clearly heard on a nearby Officer’s Body Worn Camera using a racial slur … [the “N” word]," Isaac wrote.

City leader Councilwoman Tamaya Dennard expressed outrage after finding out about Barnette's use of the slur.

"His actions are why, in spite of police reform efforts and progress, the Black community remains distrustful of law enforcement," she wrote on Facebook.

This week, the department told media Barnette will be restricted to desk duty while an internal investigation is conducted. His other police powers have been suspended until further notice.
