The City on Fire is both literal and figurative in the new Apple TV+ mystery crime drama series.
Written and executive produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, City On Fire is led by an ensemble cast that includes Wyatt Oleff, Chase Sui Wonders, Jemima Kirke, Nico Tortorella, Ashley Zukerman, Xavier Clyde, Max Milner, Alexandra Doke, Omid Abtahi, Kathleen Munroe, John Cameron Mitchell, Geoff Pierson and Beth Malone.
The series is based on the novel of the same name, but the show has a major change– it is set in the 2000s instead of the 1970s.
In City on Fire, an NYU student is shot in Central Park on the Fourth of July. There are no witnesses and little evidence after she doesn’t return from seeing her friends’ band playing downtown. The crime is investigated and it turns out that she serves as a connection between fires that are happening across the city, the music scene in NYC and an uptown family with a lot of secrets.
Shadow and Act spoke to Sui Wonders, Kirke, Tortorella, Zukerman and Clyde about the series, transporting to the 2000s and tapping into their characters.
